That reminds me of another suggestion: the best way to prepare for the skull cavern deep dives is to run the skull cavern. Many of the useful resources are found there anyway: napalm ring, spicy eel, crab cakes, bombs, iridium ore for upgrading your pickaxe, prismatic shard. Yes. Because when doing a Skull Cavern run, you want to get as deep as possible as quickly as possible, so even if each ladder/hole is only slightly delayed to a few more rocks because of low luck, this adds up and becomes significant.
